AI Security Engineering / Pillar
Enable AI adoption — do not block it. Protect the applications you build, the AI tools your workforce uses, and the models you run. NZ-owned specialist consultancy, engineering-led.
Definition. Secure AI adoption is the discipline of enabling AI use across an organisation while managing three concurrent risk surfaces: the applications you build on AI (custom LLM integrations, agents), the AI tools your workforce uses (Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, Claude, Cursor), and the models you run in production. In New Zealand, this must be done against the Privacy Act 2020, NZISM, and sector-specific regulatory obligations.
Every NZ organisation is now facing the same three-part problem: security teams cannot slow AI adoption down, business teams are adopting it faster than governance can keep up, and regulators are catching up rapidly. The response cannot be a blanket block — it has to be a considered enablement programme with the right controls in the right places.
The three risk surfaces are distinct and need distinct treatments. Applications you build require secure development practices for LLM integrations. Tools your workforce uses require configuration, monitoring, and acceptable use policy. Models you run require training data governance, inference monitoring, and model risk management.
CyberTeam has delivered secure AI adoption programmes for NZ government, financial services, and enterprise clients. We are engineering-led — meaning we build the controls, not just describe them. Where competitors deliver a report and hand off to a systems integrator, we implement and stay for the handover.
Surface 1
Custom LLM applications, AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, and internal AI tooling all need security integrated from the design phase:
Surface 2
Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise, Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and dozens of shadow-AI tools your workforce has already installed. Each requires configuration and monitoring:
Surface 3
If you host models directly — fine-tuned foundation models, on-premises inference, private cloud LLMs — the risk surface is different again:

Every recommendation is validated against the NZ regulatory landscape:
CyberCX and Bastion both operate in the AI security space in NZ. CyberCX is a large enterprise consultancy with a broad portfolio; their Secure AI Solutions offering is one specialisation among many. Bastion focuses on structured AI readiness assessment. CyberTeam is engineering-led — we build the controls rather than only assessing them, and we publish original MCP server security and attestation chain research. Not necessarily. If Microsoft Copilot is your only AI surface, a focused Copilot configuration and governance engagement is enough. CyberTeam scopes to fit the actual surface, not the maximum possible surface. A scoping call determines the right shape.
Where AI systems process iwi, hapū, or whānau data, or where AI is deployed into services that predominantly serve Māori, cultural safety is a design constraint from day one. CyberTeam works with your existing iwi engagement processes and does not substitute its own view for the iwi's. Where consultation is needed, we help scope it into the programme.
Yes. Vendor selection is a common request — which of Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude Enterprise, or OpenAI Enterprise fits our organisation. We do vendor-neutral evaluations against your requirements. We do not resell any of these platforms so there is no product bias.
A comprehensive programme typically runs 12-16 weeks for the design and initial build, with ongoing monitoring cadence continuing quarterly. Discrete workstreams (Copilot configuration, threat modelling, governance framework) each take 4-8 weeks and can be done independently.
Tell us where you are in your AI adoption journey. We will scope the right-shaped engagement — not the maximum possible programme — and give you a fixed-price proposal.
